Ah Foong in 2 Washes

Life Drawing again, I was getting bored few weeks ago during these sessions, caught up in my way of doing things, repeating the same mistakes over and over. So this time i decided to apply what I tried last week, complete a painting with only 2 washes, and dark accent in the end. It went ok... I did a lot of mistakes, often confused in what should be 1st wash and must be 2nd wash. These poses were 25 minutes, so I had very little time to paint because of the drying time. I used a butcher tray (I'm really starting to love this), with a limited palette of Indigo, Burnt Sienna and Raw Sienna. And yes she kept smiling.

Expectations rhyme with Deceptions.

I was expecting too much, ended with one piece. All my colors attempt were resounding failures. I'm Glad to have used Ivory Black on the last pose.

30min Poses with Ah Foong

We changed the pace yesterday, after 20minutes of quick gesture drawing, we switch to 30min. I find it more difficult to do longer pose. The urgency of short pose is absent, and there is no pressure in doing it right fast. Even If i'm forcing myself to draw full speed, I still know in the back of my head that there is plenty of time to fix errors. So usually I took 15 mintues for the drawing, which still stay very simple, but I do judge a lot on the spot and rectify things I dont like, or things I want to change in the model pose. (No, I'm not faithfuly painting). Ah Foong is Xu Hui's friend, one of our favorite model. She posed with grace, with a humble smile, which was very soothing.
