Farah Dawood @ Dr Sketchy

After a year, I finally managed to attend a Dr. Sketchy Life drawing session. In fact I've organized it, with the help of many friends in Singapore. It was very fun indeed. My palette is, Cadmium Red, Raw Sienna, Chrome Yellow, Indigo Blue, burnt sienna and a very light touch of Alizarin crimson.

Zen was her name, but zen she was not.

Yesterday session was akward, the model showed 1 hour late. And maybe because she felt guilty, she was kind of uncomfortable. It was just strange to draw someone, naked, who didnt want to be there. I tried to make abstraction of it but in the end that particular mood showed up in my drawing in a very particular way. Every drawing I could do, was when she couldnt make eye contact with me. Every front drawing, are just worthless. I'm feeling kinda stuck with watercolor, having difficulty to judge my improvement, I decided to do some india ink. I also tried a reese pen, and a wet brush to smear the ink for shaded area. I really enjoyed it.

Alexis, though session.

Last week session went too smoothly. Mainly because I had great expectations, but also the model we had was very skinny. Which is of course nice for a change, but very challenging. I usually prefer chubby and curvy models, much easier to draw. So I end up doing worthless pieces, spoiling papers. Expensive Arches paper... darn... So i decided to tackle on a new way of drawing and painting. Forgetting everything I knew about drawing and painting. Like if I was painting the very first time. I went in directly with the brushes without a preliminary drawing. So here is two pieces I`m able to look at and enjoy.

Xu Hui

Something strange happened today. While I was drawing and painting, I was like in a constant emergency mode, no time to think, no time to evaluate, just putting down the facts in front of me. The model, Xu Hui, has been very dynamic. Was I using her as a model, or was she using me as her painter? Did I saw what I wanted or did she show me the way. However, I have no doubt this was one of my best session ever, most of the painting were done in 5 minutes, the last one is a 15 minutes. I use Cobalt Blue, Raw Sienna, Cadmium Red light and Burnt Sienna.
