Saturday & nothing to say.

Environment is my weakness, not saying that I excel in figure painting.

The kids were playing outside, I finished this painting, and realized that I didnt put a soul in it. The pool was full actually.

This venue could be the next official venue of Dr Sketchy Singapore.

M.J is dead...

I wasn't particularly a big fan, I just remember at 10 years old, dancing frenetically to Thriller.
But his death affect me in a way that I couldn't even imagine. I'm 32 at the moment, my body has started aging, the downfall of physical me. The best of me is behind, everything ahead of me, will be a consolidation of my own past. For me, M.J is the first great artist of my living, breathing time to die. Our time as living creature was weaved together. My only bond with him, was the fact we were sharing the same timeframe. Until now, where I get to continue. It always take someone else end, to remember our own faith. Which is cruelly unavoidable. While thinking about my end, I can only try to foresee what lies between now and that last moment. I'm dying to make it worthy, unsure of the outcome.

Benjamen

I was sitting in a restaurant with some friends earlier today. I asked for tap water, My brush was thirsty. I didn't had an eraser with me, so it was a session with no safety net. I actually nailed down some ressemblance on my drawing, I was quite satisified. The watercolors pass went smoothly, Burnt umber, Burnt Sienna, Red Cadmium, Alizarin Crimson, Yellow Cadmium & Blue Thalo. Benjamen wasn't still, it was a challenge to get him in the position I wanted him to be. Still, I managed to catch glimpses of him today.

The Muse

Xu Hui came back yesterday. All I wanted to do during this session, was to capture her elegance and grace. It wasn't so much in the watercolors, but more on the underlying drawing, i tried to exagerrate some shape to enhance that aspect of her body. I felt the necessity of adding outlines later when everything was dry. I really like the effect of the flowing curves around her silhouette. To my art, she is the perfect muse.

Lemons, Garlics & Bananas

Still testing my new colors arrangement. I have to get used to it, I better just experiment. Today I tested some yellows, and grays mixing, Using Cadmium Lemon, and Yellow Cadmium, Blue Thalo, Burnt Sienna and Burnt Umber and a very light hint of Alizarin Crimson.
My first wash was a very pale burnt sienna, slowly gradating into pale blue thalo. then I started with local color of each pieces. Then I started the shadows. Once everything was uber dry, I mixed blue thalo and burnt umber, and with a fine point I did some outlines. I feel forced to put outline when I feel that I failed giving the form of object through their inner gradation. But I really like the feel of the fine brush stroke dancing on the outskirt of a mass. Especially when I do life drawing, like the gesture of the brushstroke help putting down the gesture.

30min Poses with Ah Foong

We changed the pace yesterday, after 20minutes of quick gesture drawing, we switch to 30min. I find it more difficult to do longer pose. The urgency of short pose is absent, and there is no pressure in doing it right fast. Even If i'm forcing myself to draw full speed, I still know in the back of my head that there is plenty of time to fix errors. So usually I took 15 mintues for the drawing, which still stay very simple, but I do judge a lot on the spot and rectify things I dont like, or things I want to change in the model pose. (No, I'm not faithfuly painting). Ah Foong is Xu Hui's friend, one of our favorite model. She posed with grace, with a humble smile, which was very soothing.

Cosplay with Karmen

A costumed life drawing for today, Karmen dress into a creepy girl. You cant see the details from my sketches, but her make-up was intimidating. Especially when she was starring at me.
I love my new palette, thanks Mr. Pike. I feel I can do pretty much every colors in the spectrum with it.(theorically speaking)
